RE: IC Future Directions

Hello Everyone,

I am spending some time today to reflect on what I learned this week during IC training both using the product and talking to the IC and CC powers that be. These are my thoughts. I will also be putting this on the wiki. Please comment or ask questions on the wiki.

Training Days/Webinars
-According to Darin (our CC IC rep) we have 6 full days left of training (not 3). These can be on-site, web-ex, or a combination of both. We are responsible for expenses when they come to us. This is how I would like to spend the time this summer:
-1 full day of Grading setup/Pd prep for start of school (This would primarily for Ryan, Billye, and me plus any WIS of BHS teachers that wanted to attend)
-1 full day of ad-hoc reporting/cube designer/local assessment setup and training (This would be primarily for Rich, Ryan, Mary and me plus any administrators that were interested)
-1 full day for Nurses/GCs (1/2 day for each)....I see this as a review for these groups...could be summer, could be a PD day
-Remaining 3 would be for other needs during school year or during the summer!?

DATA WAREHOUSING
-Gary had left me notes regarding the add-on warehouse piece for IC. I think we should hold off on spending any more money on IC until we understand and can use the data reporting/mining tools all ready built into IC. I recommend we investigate this again for 09-10.

SPECIAL ED
-There are two main sides to special ed for IC...SEDAC stat reporting and IEPs. IC currently does not and for the foreseeable future will not be able to match the IEP form/data that the state of CT requires. The only other IC district in CT (Trumbull) has decided to not use IC for Special Ed data and instead have gone with IEP Direct. We could make IC work for SEDAC tracking and reporting but would then be forced to double our data efforts however we handle IEPs. I am meeting with Tony on Tuesday to discuss further. I recommend we do NOT use IC to track Special Ed data and that we investigate more formally the use of IEP Direct to be piloted over the school year and implemented full scale for 09-10.

EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS
-Because IC MEssenger is un-proven and has not been tested for our district emergency needs, I am recommending we sign a 1-year contract with AlertNow for our emergency email and phone contact needs. IC Messenger will be used for basic reminders, attendance, and discipline calls to home. If IC Messenger proves to be able to handle an emergency type load of messages, we have he option of switching to IC Messenger only for 09-10.

POINT OF SALE
-From my discussions with CC regarding PoS it appears that many of the NY schools that have been using IC for many years are just now beta testing PoS. Because of this I hesitant to move forward with IC integration of PoS at this time. I am meeting next week with food services staff to discuss this issue further. I have no recommendation at this time.
